The Unexpected Community Behind Under Guyra Skies

When we embarked on this journey, and if you have been following along, it has been a bit of a journey in more ways than one — and I mean that in all seriousness. Lives have changed, paths have been taken and somehow, after fumbling through parts of life and wondering where we would end up, we ended up here.

In the right place.

I didn’t really have a photo for this post, so instead you get Toast — who, judging by his daily adventures, seems to be thoroughly enjoying the move too.

Quote about growing together

I have said it before, but life has a funny way of introducing you to people and taking creative turns that make you stop and wonder whether some things are simply meant to be. I’m not going to get all spiritual now, but the last few months have introduced us to people we may never have met otherwise, and I truly think many of these people will somehow be part of our journey moving forward.

It is hard to talk about people without going into specifics, but in three months of living here — has it really only been three months? — people have been so wonderful.

Actually, wonderful isn’t even the right word.

People have looked after our cows. I was stuck at the shop trying to buy dinner when I discovered they could only take cash, and someone’s response after handing me the money was simply, “I’ll see you Monday.”

No fuss. No hesitation. Just I’ll see you Monday.

We have talked about business ideas and been met with positivity and encouragement. We are making a genuine effort to be part of the community, and somehow people are giving that back to us tenfold.

It wasn’t what I expected.

Or at least, I didn’t expect it this soon.

I sit here now with the fire going, a beautiful new kitchen, spending time with my parents, feeling incredibly lucky to have a beautiful partner who shares the same visions as me, and surrounded by so many projects that I genuinely enjoy working on each day.

And it creates an enormous amount of gratitude.

It is about looking at what we have and not what we are missing.

When I think about going back to work, it gives me anxiety. But when I think about what we are trying to build and create here, it doesn’t feel daunting at all.

And I think that is the difference.

We actually do know where we are going. We have goals, ideas and some very real projects already underway. There are things we want to create at Roseville, things we want to share, and plenty of plans that are slowly taking shape.

We just don’t know exactly what it will all look like yet.

And for the first time in a long time, that doesn’t worry me.

It excites me.

There are big ideas ahead, and I can’t wait to see where they take us.

Maybe that is one of the unexpected gifts of this move. We didn’t come here with everything mapped out. We came here knowing we wanted something different, and somehow the people, the place and the opportunities have started creating a path of their own.

And right now, sitting here at Roseville, with the fire going and the people we love around us, it feels like we are exactly where we are supposed to be.
